TONADA High Efficiency EC Backward Curved Centrifugal Cooling Fan
Tonada EC fans are built around a permanent magnet synchronous motor, with integrated rectification, drive stages and intelligent control circuitry. They connect directly to single-phase or three-phase AC mains, eliminating the need for external variable frequency drives and DC power supplies.
Featuring an external rotor design, the airfoil impeller is integrated directly with the motor rotor, eliminating conventional transmission losses. Every unit undergoes system-level matching and calibration of the motor, control electronics and impeller prior to delivery, ensuring optimal whole-fan efficiency rather than standalone motor performance.
The product range covers two core aerodynamic platforms, namely backward-curved and forward-curved multi-blade impellers, fitting mainstream frame sizes from compact fan coil units to large air handling units. With motor efficiency exceeding 90% at rated duty, the fans fundamentally eliminate the slip losses inherent to AC induction motors.
In real-world operation, Tonada EC fans deliver overall energy savings of 40% to 60%, and up to 70% in applications with demand-based speed control, directly reducing electricity expenses over the full product lifecycle. They support 0–10 V analogue input, PWM and MODBUS bus control, enabling stepless speed regulation from 0 to 100%. Airflow tracks load changes with high precision, resolving the overcooling and insufficient temperature accuracy issues common with fixed-speed fans.
Optimized electromagnetic and aerodynamic design reduces operating noise by 10–15 dBA compared to equivalently sized AC fans, making them well suited for noise-sensitive environments such as hospitals and office buildings.
The brushless architecture eliminates carbon brush wear. Paired with maintenance-free precision bearings and robust insulation protection, the fans achieve a continuous service life of over 70,000 hours. IP54 and IP68 ingress protection ratings are available as options, and critical circuits are treated with conformal coating to withstand harsh operating conditions including moisture, dust and oil mist.
In a data center retrofit project, 12 precision air conditioning fans were replaced one-for-one with Tonada EC fans. Daily energy consumption per unit dropped from 86 kWh to 39 kWh, representing a 55% energy saving rate. Noise levels fell from 65 dBA to 52 dBA. Previously, the site recorded 3 unplanned downtime events per year; after the upgrade, the units achieved zero unplanned downtime across 24 consecutive months of continuous operation. These results validate the superior energy efficiency and reliability of EC fans in continuous-duty applications.
Tonada EC fans are widely applicable across both HVAC and industrial cooling sectors. Typical HVAC installations include air handling units, outdoor air units, fan coil units and cleanroom air conditioning. Industrial cooling use cases cover enclosure ventilation, variable frequency drive cooling, laser equipment thermal management, cooling tower ventilation and other demanding scenarios.
Mounting dimensions of the entire product line are fully compatible with conventional AC fans, enabling direct drop-in replacement for energy-saving retrofits of existing equipment. Customization options are available for voltage ratings, control interfaces and ingress protection levels to meet specific project requirements.
